In my past postings, I talked about water being an elixir of life considering that 60% of the body ,70% of the brain is water and the lungs are 90% water .A well hydrated body ,works better and looks better .BUT, while staying hydrated is important, to your health ,timing of water intake in relation to meals is important.
Drinking too much water during meals actually slows down our digestion because the water interferes with the natural levels of bile and acids in the stomach, slowing digestion . Reducing the ability of digestive enzymes to properly digest foods could cause a build up of toxic waste in the body. After all it does not matter what you eat if the body cannot properly digest it
.So stop drinking water about 30 minutes before a meal and wait about one hour after a meal to start drinking water again .Food should not be washed down .the more liquid in the stomach, the longer it takes for the food to be digested for the liquid must first be absorbed. The less we drink with our meals the better. The dryness of  our food provides the necessary stimulus to the secretion of saliva and of gastric and intestinal juices. An abundance of  liquid in the digestive tract interferes with the action of the secreting glands. It dilutes the secretions and  thereby  weakens their digestive qualities.
To improve digestion,by thickening the lining of the stomach ,it is recommended to drink 1 to 2 glasses  of tepid water half an hour before each meal.BUT REMEMBER GOOD HEALTH IS A CONTINUOUS HABIT NOT AN EVENT.

The preparation of food in the best manner possible is a science .Knowledge in regard to proper food combinations is of great worth .There is a way of combining and preparing food that will make it both wholesome and nourishing .bearing this in mind, it is not proper to mix fruits with vegetables at the same meal..vegetables typically have far more protein ,iron, calcium, antioxidants ,complex B-vitamins and loads of other vitamins and minerals than most fruits so they tend to take longer to digest.. Fruits however tend to have so much acid in it that it literally breaks down and cuts the nutritional value of the vegetables .so you are basically getting a little less nutrients from the vegetables than you would if you were not to mix them.
Fruits and vegetables taken at one meal ,produce acidity of the stomach, then impurity of the blood results and the mind is not clear because the digestion is imperfect.
Fruits are especially recommended as a health giving agency but should not also be eaten immediate  after a full meal of vegetables or other food types because when that happens it causes fermentation in the stomach because you will be basically creating a kind of chemistry experiment in your tummy.
It is better to have fruits at one meal and vegetables at another.or take your fruits hours before your next meal.BUT  REMEMBER GOOD HEALTH IS A CONTINUOUS  HABIT NOT AN EVENT

They say variety is the spice of life, but it may interest you to know that there should not be many kinds of food in one meal.
Food should be prepared with simplicity yet with a nicety which will invite the appetite. The simpler our diet ,the better our digestion ,assimilation and health will be .Every food requires a different digestive enzyme combination. and mixing too many at one time  causes a disturbance in the stomach and renders the digestion less efficient
Most people hold the misconception that a wide variety of foods is necessary for good health, that is not entirely true because all mixed and complicated foods are injurious to the health of human beings
It is the variety and mixture of meat , vegetables ,fruits ,wine tea, coffee, sweet ,cakes and rich pies  all together at once that ruin the stomach and place human beings in a position where they become invalids. Moreover, the serving of a great variety of  dishes absorbs time ,money and taxing labor without accomplishing much good .It may be fashionable to some people to have half a dozen courses at a meal but the custom is unfortunately ruinous to health.
Try not to have too great a variety of dishes in a single meal  eating about two or three kinds of well combined food is healthy for the body.In my subsequent postings we are going to be talking about proper food combinations.BUT REMEMBER GOOD HEALTH IS NOT AN EVENT BUT A CONTINUOUS HABIT<meta name="propeller" content="466aa60aa83847dd7acb14bf702f122c">

Having your meals the same time every day regulates and controls the internal signals of satiety ,appetite and hunger.Health is greatly injured by overeating and eating at improper times. This diminishes the blood to the brain .The mind becomes a little dull in decision taking. Also according to Dr. Melmet a cardiologist, when meals are eaten at different times rather than on a regular schedule, your body goes into "a stress mode"example, when you eat breakfast at 7 am one morning and 11 am the next, your body becomes confused about when its next meal is coming. This causes the secretion of the stress hormone cortisol. High.High levels of cortisol leads to spikes in insulin which causes inflammation and can increase the risk of many cancers. In one research, test subjects were given regular meals for two weeks and then irregular meals for another two weeks.Below are some of the advantages found when people ate at regular mealtimes versus irregular mealtimes :

  • A lower energy intake for the day
  • More calories burned following their meal(thermogenesis)
  • Lower total and LDL cholesterol  levels
  • Lower peak insulin levels and lower overall insulin response
All of these benefits can effortlessly help maintain a healthy weight, improve cholesterol levels and improve insulin levels which will have a positive impact on your health.
If we would form habits of regularity and order ,we would improve in health, mental attitude ,in memory and in disposition. This is for our own good both physically and morally.
Snacking between meals also destroys the healthful tone of the digestive organs to the detriment of health and cheerfulness .
Even though  life activities and events intervenes when it comes to routine ,create a regular meal schedule and do your very best to stick to it.BUT REMEMBER THAT GOOD HEALTH IS A CONTINUOUS HABIT NOT AN EVENT.

We re not nocturnal animals, when we sleep, our entire metabolism slows down .The reclining person causes the weight of the internal organs to press against the very large nerve trunks on each side of the spinal column and shuts off the mechanism that keeps the digestive system working. When you lie down at night ,the stomach must have finished all its digestion so it can join the rest of the body in resting but if you eat just before you sleep, the digestive organs will be working through out the night. such sleep is often disturbed and in the morning you wake up un-refreshed .
Many indulge in the pernicious habit of eating just before retiring even after taking their regular meals simple because they may feel a little faint or hungry .By indulging in this practice it soon becomes a habit and when it becomes a habit to eat before sleeping, the digestive organs loose their natural vigor and the person becomes a miserable dyspeptic. Eating late at night has also been known to cause severe heart burn.
If you feel that you must eat at night, take a drink of cold water instead and in the morning you will feel much better for not having eaten
Here are a few simple tips on evening meals.:
Eat about three hours before going to bed. Your last meal should try and consist of mainly lean protein or low calorie fibrous carbohydrate like vegetables and fruits and starchy carbohydrates like bread, pastas potatoes etc. should as much as possible be avoided close to bedtime.

The very idea that two meals a day is better than three meal started way back in the bible "And the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning and bread and flesh in the evening"1kings 17 vs 6.That was the prophet Elijah being fed twice a day  by ravens instructed by God to feed him. That simple means to me that two meals a day is better than three.
The practice of eating but two meals a day is generally found to be a benefit to health. Those who are changing from three meals will at first be troubled more or less with faintness, especially about the time they have been in the habit of eating their third meal but if they persevere for a short time this faintness will disappear .Yet under some circumstances ,some persons may require a third meal .If taken ,this should be very light ,and of food most easily digested
The next meal should never be eaten until the stomach has had time to recover from the labor of digesting the proceeding meal .Most persons who give the plan a trial will find that two meals a day are better than three..BUT REMEMBER THAT GOOD HEALTH IS A CONTINUOUS HABIT NOT AN EVENT.

To eat is a necessity but to eat intelligently is an act .If not more important ,just as important as what we eat is how and when we eat
.In this posting and subsequent postings, I am going to talk about basic perfect eating habits.
Today I will start with the importance of chewing. The benefits derived  from food does not depend so much on the quantity eaten as on its thorough digestion .more over, the gratification of taste does not depend on the amount of food swallowed as in the length of time it remains in the mouth .Digestion starts in the mouth .Thorough chewing allows the digestive enzymes in saliva to thoroughly mix with the food an essential first step for optimal digestion. In order to secure healthy digestion , food should be eaten slowly .those who wish to avoid indigestion or bloating will do well to remember this .
If your time to eat is limited ,do not bolt down your food .Rather, eat less and masticate slowly .
When you are excited , anxious or in a hurry, don't eat until you are a little calm because at the time of unrest, the vital powers already severely taxed cannot supply the necessary digestive fluids
Chewing gums before meals is also a no go since this overworks the salivary glands.
The bones holding your teeth get a workout when we chew ,helping to keep them strong,The saliva produced while chewing is also beneficial , helping to clear food  particles from your mouth and wash away bacteria so their may be less plague build up and tooth decay .
Again , the longer you chew ,the more time it will take you to finish a meal and research shows that eating slowly can help you to eat less and ultimately avoid weight gain or even loss weight e.g. chewing your food twice as long as you normally would will instantly help you control your portion sizes which naturally decreases calorie consumption.
So eat intelligently by chewing your food thoroughly. BUT REMEMBER GOOD HEALTH IS A CONTINUOUSE HABIT NOT AN EVENT.
