The leaves of the sour sop fruit can be used to make tea. Fresh leaves or dry leaves can be used .Two leaves is enough per person .The number of leaves you use depends on the number of persons you want to serve
Place the leaves in boiling water, just as you would make ordinary tea, and cover to prevent the aroma from escaping, and leave to stand for one hour.The strength and the potency of the sour sap leave tea, depends on the number of leaves and the length of time it is left in the boiling water .sieve out the leaves and drink as normal tea.The sour sop tea has been known to alleviate migraine headaches,.diarrhea ,cough , back pain,stress and nerve ailments.and if one is suffering from insomnia, try taking the tea before gong to sleep and if your child has a bed wetting problem,this tea will help prevent it.The effects of the tea is most useful if taken one hour before food or one hour after food

Take a knife and cut  down the center of the sour sop fruit,take the white part and put in bowl.add water and squeeze the juice gently until all the juice is removed.
Strain into a separate bowl to get a smooth fluid  without particles.
Add a little distilled water.
squeeze half lemon juice and add to the sour sop juice.
Our drink is ready .can be served normally or cold.

Sour sop is a broad leaf flowering evergreen tree native to sub-Saharan African countries that lie within the tropics .Its  flavor  has been described as a combination of strawberry and pineapple with sour citrus flavor notes contrasting with an underlying creamy flavor reminiscent of coconut or banana.The fruit is large and green with an inner sweet white pulp used to make fruit drinks.The bark of the plant is  identified as having the highest cancer cell killing property
Sour sop is also known to be a broad spectrum.antimicrobial agent for both bacterial and fungal infections ,intestinal parasite and worms.It also lowers high blood pressure .Sour sop has a high vitamin C content of about 20 mg per 100 grams of fruit fresh and this makes it an excellent antioxidant to increase endurance , boost immune system and slow the aging process .It also contains  high phosphorus and calcium which is good for strong bones and to prevent osteoporosis.its low Na content and high potassium content is a very good combination for preventing hypertension..In a study published in 1997 in "Journal of medicinal chemistry ,compounds from sour sop were tested on breast cancer cells in a culture and found to be upto 250 times more effective in killing the cells than some chemotherapy drugs.
In this times of increase in cancer infections ,eating sour sop fruits every day is an healthy habit worthy of cultivating.Sour sop is s fruit that should not lark in your home since it can help to attack cancer cells safely and naturally.BUT REMEMBER GOOD HEALTH IS A HABIT NOT AN EVENT.

In my last posting , I said I was going to inform you of other health benefits of bitter kola and I am KEEPING TO MY PROMISE.
Mrs Chinere Nwokeke,A researcher with the Nigerian Natural Medicine development agency (NNMDA),told news agency of Nigeria that bitter kola could be used in treating opportunistic infections associated with HIV and AIDS because of its antibacterial detoxification and cleansing properties . She mentioned that the saponin in bitter kola is responsible for its cleansing effect .Saponin is mainly used as a liver tonic .It also enhances the function of the liver and gallbladder .Before now, bitter kola was mainly consumed by the elderly probable because they felt it could elongate life .but I would not blame them for thinking that .Any natural food product that has the inherent ability to prevent several bacterial infections in the body ,invariable can prolong life.It also possess anticancer effects and can be taken to prevent proliferation of cancer cells.
For children, when ground and mixed with honey ,it can be used in the treatment of mumps and measles .It should be taken orally and also applied externally in the case of mumps.And for those of you that enjoy singing, if at anytime you develop a coarse voice ,take some bitter kola as it has the ability to clear the voice by stimulating the production of mucus along the lining of the vocal tube which softens the dry throat.Apart from its fantastic effect on the body, bitter kola is also known to be a snake repellent especially for those that leave in areas that are prone to snake attacks. Finally,continuous consumption of bitter kola makes the body alkaline and the body tends to be in optimum health when it is in an alkaline state. I developed a little healthy habit of eating one bitter kola after drinking my lemon water and last thing at night before I go to sleep. I started this habit about a year ago and for the past one year I HAVE NOT TREATED MYSELF FOR MALARIA.I did not really know that the bitter kola I was taking has anti- malaria properties until I started reading about the health benefits of  bitter kola and I want to share those benefits with you. Bitter kola whose biological name is "Garcinia kola has been discovered to have some antibiotic properties which could be effective in the treatment of many commonly occurring ailments. Chewing bitter kola relieves cough,
hoarseness, bronchial and   throat troubles .Several studies has discovered bitter kola to be a remedy for dysentery and osteoarthritis and an antidote for poison
Bitter kola has been used for centuries to treat chest colds in traditional medicine .And a study written  by Simon Adekunle of the Ekiti state university in Nigeria shows that bitter kola works on chest colds by dilating the alveola ducts  and sacs in the lungs by improving the strength of the fibers in the lung tissue.Bitter kola's beneficial lung properties are attributed to its high antioxidant content.
Considerable studies found the chemical constituents in bitter kola have antimalarial properties .Traditional healers in the Democratic republic of Congo attributed this to its quinones content.
Further more ,Kolaviron ,the powerful chemical compound found in bitter kola, was reportedly tested on malaria parasite and found to inhibit malaria activity according to Professor Olussegun Ademowo a researcher at the Institute af advanced Medical research and Training ,College of Medicine, University of Ibadan ,South west of Nigeria.There are many other health benefits of this Bitter kola that I will talk about in my next posting .All I can say is that for the past one year this item is ever present in my house and has proofed to be quite useful to me.
