NATURAL SORE THROAT REMEDIES

A sore throat can be an uncomfoortable pain in the uh…throat. Like blinking, we never notice how much we swallow until we paying attention to it, and when it hurts like nobody’s business, it’s kind of difficult not to pay attention. But before you go getting down about how long you’re going to have to suffer with it, consider taking some action-relief may be close than you think. Below are  simple at home sore throat remedies that will help you get  on naturally soothing the ache.

. Gargle With Warm Salt Water:

When  Grandmother told you to gargle with salt water, she knew what she was talking about. Gargling with salt water isn’t an old wives tale-it’s about one of the closest to a cures for a sore throat you can get.
When our throats hurt, regardless of what causes it, it’s because the cells in the mucous membranes are swollen and inflamed. By gargling with salt water you decrease the swelling, as salts primary function is to draw out water, which in turn shrinks the swollen cell and eases the pain. It also helps wash away the excess mucous and allows the stuffy nose (if you have one) to drain properly
.You will need…
-1 cup of warm water (8 oz.)
-½ teaspoon of table salt
Directions
Heat water until it’s warm, but not hot. Thoroughly mix in salt. Gargle. Repeat 3 times throughout the day as needed. Any more than that and you risk drying out healthy soft tissue and making things worse
.2. Make And Enjoy A Hot Toddy (or have someone make it for you.)
Typically a Hot Toddy helps a sore throat -particularly one accompanied by a cold- for 2 reasons. The honey and lemon soothes the throat, while the alcohol helps you sleep. I personally leave the alcohol out of mine as my mother did when she made her version for me growing up. Whether or not you use it is up to you, but keep in mind that steering clear of alcohol when you are under the weather is usually best.
You will need…
-2 oz. bourbon or whiskey (optional, not recommended)
-1 tablespoon of honey, or more to taste
-4 ounces hot water
-1 teaspoon lemon juice
-1 slice fresh lemon (optional)
Directions
If you’re using it, pour the alcohol into a large mug. Add the honey, and leave the spoon in the mug. Pour the hot water into the mug, making sure it gets the last bit of honey off the spoon. Add the lemon juice and stir well. Place the mug in the microwave and heat until its nice and hot, but not boiling (about 1 minute.) Add the lemon slice, and enjoy.
. Drink That Ginger
Ginger has a pretty intense-even spicy- flavor, so why would you want to ingest it when the throat is already tender and sore? It just so happens that ginger is packed with properties that will chase away the pain. It works brilliantly as a cold remedy as well, and colds and sore throats often go hand in hand. It’s an expectorant, which means it helps loosen and expel mucus from the respiratory system (including the extra mucus in the throat.) It does this in part because its aroma opens up the sinuses. It also boosts the circulation, increasing oxygen to the cells, flushing out toxins, and speeding up the healing process. To top it off it acts as an anti-inflammatory, and fights off bad bacteria too. To top the top off, you can enjoy all of ginger’s benefits in a warm, soothing, cup of tea.
You will need…
-Fresh ginger root, 2 inches long
-Honey
-A sharp knife or vegetable peeler
-A cutting board
-2-3 cups of water
-Wax paper
Directions
Wash ginger root thoroughly, then peel. Slice into small pieces, place on a cutting board, and cover it with a piece of wax paper. Crush it using a mallet, or  the flat side of the knife, . If you don’t want to bother crushing, you can slice it into very small chunks after peeling. Boil  water over medium heat and then add the ginger. Let it boil for 3-5 minutes, then take a cup and enjoy it piping hot-add some honey or other flavorings if you like. You can strain it before drinking if you don’t want little bits of ginger at the bottom of the cup. Just make sure you enjoy it while it’s nice and warm!

BUILDING IMMUNITY AGAINST THE FLU VIRUS

Prepare yourselves! It's that time of year where health enthusiasts go the extra mile to provide the public with influenza vaccines at health institutions, local pharmacies, and miscellaneous locations across the country.
Despite the vaccine's function to keep you flu free, you may doubt its protection. Studies have shown that three out of ten health care workers opt out flu vaccines.   • Fruit. The natural energy booster is more than just exquisite taste throughout the day. Citrus fruit like grapefruits and oranges are good sources for Vitamin C. Add a lemon or lemon juice to what you eat or drink. The sour, citrus properties can fight off those bacteria and toxin that cause the common cold or flu.

  • Drink. Sport drinks, tea, and water are ideal drinks that can speed up recovery after a workout or boost immunity during the flu season. Combined with exercise, sport drinks happen to give your body an extra boost of energy with potassium, sodium, and electrolytes. Tea, like tomato, is an antioxidant. Add lemon and honey doubling the effect of the herbal drink. And of course water is the "go-to" substance to keep your bodily functions regular and hydrated.
Putting your body to work also helps immunity. Has a stuffy nose remained stuffy while walking or jogging? Not likely. The same applies to the body even before a cold or flu comes about. Work the body consistently to burn out unhealthy fat and toxin.
Finally, be sure to get sufficient amount of sleep. Many fall ill because they're not getting proper sleep. The body needs at least seven to eight hours of sleep. Some work schedules require many hours; however, make adjusts to your sleep pattern to avoid the looming danger of the flu.

NATURAL ACNE SCAR REMEDIES.

You have to be more careful if you are currently experiencing an acne outbreak, as you shouldn't let any foreign material (such as any of the above ingredients we've talked about) get into the sores. Not only can it be irritating, but it can also make the acne worse. However, if you need immediate comfort, you may want to try an icepack to help cool and temporarily tighten the skin.

New Apple Ingredient Discovery Keeps Muscles Strong! by: Michael Clonts

Natural Component of Apple Peels Found To Help Prevent Muscle Weakening 

In search of an effective method to prevent muscle wasting that comes with illness and aging, researchers have located a natural compound that is very promising. 

The findings reported in the June issue of Cell Metabolism (a Cell Press publication), identify a natural component of apple peels known as Ursolic Acid as a promising newnutritional therapy for the widespread and debilitating condition that affects nearly everyone at one time or another. 

"Muscle wasting is a frequent companion of illness and aging," explained researchers from The University of Iowa, Iowa City. "It prolongs hospitalization, delays recoveries and in some cases prevents people going back home. It isn't well understood and there is no medicine for it." 

The research team first looked at what happens to gene activity in muscles under conditions that promote weakening. Those studies turned up 63 genes that change in response to fasting in both people and mice and another 29 that shift their expression in the muscles of both people who are fasting and those with spinal cord injury. Comparison of those gene expression signatures to the signatures of cells treated with more than 1300 bio-active small molecules led them to ursolic acid as a compound with effects that might counteract those of atrophy. 

"Ursolic Acid is an interesting natural compound," they said. "It's part of a normal diet as a component of apple peels. They always say that an apple a day keeps the doctor away..." 

The researchers next gave Ursolic Acid to fasted laboratory subjects. Those experiments showed that ursolic acid could protect against muscle weakening as predicted. When ursolic acid was added to the food of normal subjects for a period of weeks, their muscles grew. Those effects were traced back to enhanced insulin signaling in muscle and to corrections in the gene signatures linked to atrophy. 

The subjects given ursolic acid also became leaner and had lower blood levels of glucose, cholesterol and triglycerides. The findings therefore suggest that ursolic acid may be responsible for some of the overall benefits of healthy eating. 

"We know if you eat a balanced diet like mom told us to eat you get this material," the researchers explained "People who eat junk food don't get this." 

It is not yet clear whether the findings will translate to human patients, but the goal now is to "figure out if this can help people." If so, they don't yet know whether Ursolic Acid at levels that might be consumed as part of a normal diet might or might not be enough.

I read in the guardian newspaper of Sunday 7th September 2014 that  some virologist who specialize in Ebola are suspecting that part of the population in West Africa are immune to the virus and that members of the special group can play a crucial role in efforts to contain the epidemic.This has lead me to research into natural foods that can boost our immunuty especially in this times that infectious diseases of all kinds are flying around.
In today's posting I want to talk about  our very common YOGURT.
Yogurt contains pro biotics  or live active cultures which are healthy bacteria that keep the gut and intestinal tract free of disease causing germs.It also contains lactobacteria especially acidophilus which promotes the growth of healthy bacteria in the colon and reduces the conversion of bile into carcinogenic bile acids.basically, the friendly bacteria in yogurt seams to deactivate harmful substances such as nitrates and nitrites before they are converted into carcinogenic  nitrosamine.some viral and allergic gastrointestinal disorders injure the lining of the intestine especially the cells that produce lactose ,this results in temporary lactose mal-absorption problems .that is why children often cannot tolerate milk for a month or two after an intestinal infection .Yogurt however is a popular healing food for diarrhea.
Research has shown that children  recover faster from diarrhea when taking yogurt .
Yogurt also minimizes the effects of antibiotics on friendly bacteria in the intestine .It has also been known to decrease the amount of yeast colonies in the virgina and decreases the incidence of virginal yeast infections .
A study from university of Vienna in Austria found that a daily 7 ounce serving of yogurt was just as effective in boosting immunity as popping of immunity pills.

PRACTICAL STEPS IN MAKING SOYBEAN POWDER


  • Ensure that you first rinse the soybean very well to remove all dirt and dust.
  • Drain the beans thoroughly to remove as much water as possible and please avoid using a paper towel to dry the beans since this can introduce fibers from the towel.
  • You may prepare the beans a day earlier and allow it to stay overnight and dry properly.
  • When you are certain the soybean is dry,roast the soy bean in a popcorn machine or frying pan to make it nice and brown.for which ever method you are using to get it brown,ensure that you stir the beans occasionally .constant stirring keeps the soybeans from roasting unevenly and whether you use a popcorn maker or a frying pan,10-15 minutes completes the roasting process.you may also wish to taste it.Tender tasting beans confirms that the roasting process is complete.
  • Place beans immediately in a blender.A quick transfer from the heat to the blender ensures that the beans will grind to a smooth powder.If beans is allowed to cool before grinding,it makes the soybeans hard. making grinding very difficult.5-8 minutes of grinding time yields smooth soybean powder.
  • Transfer the soybean powder, into an airtight container and store in a dark cool place.
  • Use fresh powder for the next two weeks 
  • You can replace some of the wheat flour in your favorite baked food recipe with soybean powder and increase the protein content of your cookies ,cakes and bread.It can also be used with custard or oats.

PRACTICAL WAYS OF USING SOYBEAN MILK CONTINUED ( SOY MILK)


  • Put a trainer over a large pot then start blending the soybeans in batches i.e, place one cup of saoked soybean in the blender then add either 2 or three cups of water and  blend for about 3-5 minutes until the beans has completely broken down.
  • Pour mixture unto the strainer ,allow to strain for a minute or two.
  • Then bring all the ends of the cloth together and twist until all liquid is squeezed out.
  • Remove the remains of soybean and set aside and repeat process again until all the ground soybean has been squeezed out which is about three batches considering the amount of beans that was soaked.
  • Place the pot with the soybean extract over medium low heat .stir from time to time and bring to boil.be careful to keep an eye on the soymilk because it can bubble and overflow.
  • Once the milk has boiled ,add salt ,flavoring and sweetener you may want to add.
  • Turn heat down to low and allow it to cook for another 20 minutes.
  • Turn heat off  and allow the milk to completely cool before you use it or store it ensure that you scoop out the "skin or film that forms on top  before storing .
  • Once it has come to room temperature ,it can be stored in the refrigerator but not more than one week.
Soybean milk is a healthy alternative to cow milk .It can be taken on its own as a refreshing
morning drink or with Quaker oats ,custards etc. Try your hands on making your very own soybean milk and enjoy the nutritional experience .BUT REMEMBER THAT GOOD HEALTH IS A CONTINOUS HABIT NOT  AN EVENT.
