ARE BREAST CANCER VACCINES THE NEW CHEMOTHERAPY?(BY JORGE PEREZ)

Chemotherapy for breast cancer is one of today’s most common treatments. However, tomorrow’s therapies are giving patients and breast cancer centers new hope for a better, gentler cure, thanks to promising studies on breast cancer vaccines.
The idea of curing breast cancer with a simple therapeutic vaccine instead of surgery and/or months of chemotherapy or radiation is very appealing to patients and breast cancer centers alike. And while we’re not quite there yet scientifically, that certainly is the goal—one that’s within reach.
In the past year, medical powerhouses like the Mayo Clinic, Johns Hopkins and MD Anderson have been studying various therapeutic breast cancer vaccines, all showing promise.
The Mayo Clinic is currently working on a breast cancer vaccine for a highly aggressive type called ‘triple negative’, which affects 15-20% of breast cancer patients. It cannot be treated by estrogen blockers like Tamoxifen, as this particular form of breast cancer is not fueled by estrogen. Instead, chemotherapy for this breast cancer type is currently the only treatment option, and that even with chemotherapy, the breast cancer is likely to return and metastasize.
Johns Hopkins is studying experimental breast cancer vaccine in clinical trials as well. This breast cancer vaccine awakens the immune system and teaches lead immune cells to attack breast cancer cells, something the cells do not inherently detect as foreign or dangerous.
The MD Anderson Cancer Center is studying ways to boost the body’s immune system to fight metastatic breast cancer, and to prevent recurrence. Researchers there have taken on hard-to-treat metastatic cancer because of its aggressive nature.
In nearly every cancer center where research is happening (and well funded), breast cancer vaccines are being developed and studied and with good reason. Even with the improved cure rate using current therapies like chemotherapy for breast cancer, experts estimate that more than 200,000 women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer each year.
The collective mission among breast cancer centers, researchers, patients, survivors and the society as a whole is to wipe out breast cancer entirely. To do that, a second kind of breast cancer vaccine is needed: the preventative vaccine.
Currently, the Cleveland Clinic is studying a breast cancer vaccine that the researchers believe will prevent cancer from occurring in the first place. They have already demonstrated success in mice. The study is now in Phase 1 of FDA clinical trials on its effectiveness on humans. This particular breast cancer vaccine is designed to activate the immune system to attack a type of protein only found in breast cancer tumors.
Experts predict that a successful vaccine will be approved and ready for use in a handful of years, not decades. So while chemotherapy for breast cancer is hardly a therapy of the past, breast cancer vaccine research seems to be paving the way for a world without breast cancer chemotherapy, radiation and most importantlyFree Reprint Articles, breast cancer itself

THE IMPORTANCE OF TAKING CALCIUM SUPPLIMENTS (BY RYAN COTE)

Calcium is the most abundant mineral in the human body and also an important supplement to take. Calcium is needed to form bones and teeth and is also required for blood clotting, transmission of signals in nerve cells, and muscle contraction. The importance of calcium for preventing osteoporosis, however, is probably its most well-known role.

While anyone can benefit from taking a calcium supplement, it's a MUST for those that rarely consume dairy products, especially women because of the threat of osteoporosis. It seems that few people realize how important calcium is to their body, but if you consider the fact that it's needed for healthy bones, that in itself is a strong argument to make sure you're getting enough calcium daily. What's the adequate daily intake of calcium? 1,000-1,200 mg daily.

So how do you choose a calcium supplement. A form of calcium has recently emerged called coral calcium. It's a natural form of calcium derived from Okinawa marine coral. The amazing thing about coral calcium is that it naturally contains calcium and magnesium in a 2:1 ratio. This biologically perfect ratio gives your body a perfect pH balance while supplying the basic ingredients for the rejuvenation of the body.

Since most of the body is comprised of water our pH level has a direct effect on all body chemistry. An imbalanced pH describes the pH level of the body when it is too acidic or too alkaline for long period of time. Scientific studies have shown that for a body to be healthy it must have a balanced alkaline system. They found acidic systems are highly susceptible to degenerative diseases including Cardiovascular Disease (the #1 killer in the U.S.), Cancer (#2 killer in the U.S.), and Diabetes, as well as systemic weight loss.

I highly recommend you take a look at your eating habits and do a careful evalution of how much calcium you are getting daily. It's crucial you're intaking between 1,000 and 1,200 mg daily. Most likely you will need to supplement your diet with a calcium supplement. Coral calcium is proving to be a dominant calcium supplement, but if you'd rather go with a regular calcium supplment, calcium citrate is the form to take.

Healing Properties of Pineapple: Pineapple Juice Is 5 Times More Effective Than Cough Syrup(BY ANYA VIEN)

5 Healing Properties of Pineapple

  • Healthy bones and cartilage. One portion of fresh pineapple contains 76% of the recommended daily dose of manganese. Manganese is an essential element for the growth of healthy bones and cartilage. Manganese is also important for the formation of collagen and the healing of wounds.
  • Treatment of gout. Gout is caused by accumulation of abnormal levels of uric acid in the blood causing joint inflammation.   Consumption of pineapple helps reduce the level of uric acid in the blood, thus effectively preventing painful aggravations associated with gout.
  • Anti-inflammatory. Bromelain is an enzyme that has anti-inflammatory properties. Bromelain helps the body get rid of toxins by fighting off inflammation which impacts all the tissues and organs in the body. Regular consumption of pineapple can help to treat mild forms of arthritis and sports injuries by reducing inflammation and pain. (You can find pineapple enzyme supplements here)  Bromelain also fights infections and bacteria. Thus, the juice from fresh pineapples can suppress coughs five times more effectively than cough syrup.
  • Aesthetic treatment.  Pineapple has vitamin C, Bromelain and Alpha hydroxy acid (or AHA) which are used as ingredients in many beauty products. The pulp of fresh pineapple can be used as a facial mask to soothe the skin. Vitamin C will help slow down the aging process and reduce wrinkles. Pineapple can also be used as an exfoliator to remove calluses and dry skin. Additionally, foods rich in manganese, as pineapple, will help you maintain healthy, glowing skin.
  • Weight loss and maintenance of weight.  Due to the fiber contained in pineapple, it takes more time to digest, thus causing a prolonged feeling of satiety.  Fiber also helps prevent constipation by stimulating bowel movement.
Pineapple Cough Suppressant Recipe
– 1 cup of fresh pineapple juice
– 1/4 cup of fresh lemon juice
– 1 piece of ginger (about 2 inches)
– 1 Tbsp raw honey

Pregnancy and Migraine Attacks by (Jason Mitchell)

The exact causes of migraine are still unknown, the only thing experts are sure about is that brain vessels are its main ‘culprits’. Women tend to suffer from migraines twice as often as men and during pregnancy due to certain hormonal changes happening in the female body the risk of developing migraine is even higher. Although migraine attack is not harmful for the fetus, mothers-to-be do have hard times during such attacks as most popular treatments for migraine cannot be used during pregnancy
Migraine is a chronic functional disorder accompanied by periodic attacks of severe headache. It’s still not known what exactly causes migraine, its etiology is debatable, certain experts believe that migraine is inherited, some medics think that it’s a neurological disorder, whereas others believe it’s a vascular disease. Unfortunately, modern drugs can only relieve its symptoms, but cannot cure this disease. One can find cheap prescription drugs to relieve migraine attacks in online pharmacies.
According to statistics, women suffer from migraine two times more often than men, especially during periods of hormonal changes. Quite often the first signs of migraine can appear in girls at the age of 10-13 years, that is during puberty, when the body experiences serious changes.
Many women suffering from migraine attacks wonder if pregnancy can affect their condition. Luckily, for most women pregnancy brings positive changes. Researches show that in 60-70% of cases migraine attacks stop or at least become less frequent due to the hormonal changes happening in the body of a pregnant woman, about 25% of women notice no changes in their condition, and about 4-8% may experience worsening of migraines. If a woman suffers from migraine attacks with aura, then there is a risk that during pregnancy such attacks will become worse, but in those who don’t have aura pregnancy can lead to an improvement of migraine symptoms. Sometimes pregnancy can promote the development of this disease in those who have never experienced migraines before.
A pregnant woman should always tell her doctor about any headaches she experiences, especially if they are intense, two-sided, throbbing and if they aggravate during physical activity as it might be a symptom of eclampsia, a very dangerous complication of pregnancy.
Migraine attacks can be triggered by various factors:
  • Stress;
  • Lack of sleep;
  • Decrease in blood pressure;
  • Such foods as chocolate, cheese, hot spices, too much citrus fruits;
  • Foods with nitrates and MSG preservative;
  • Alcohol and smoking, which are anyway contraindicated in pregnant women;
  • Skipping meals;
  • Sharp changes in the weather, etc.
The first defense line against migraine attacks is self-care and healthy life-style. The following tips can help manage migraine during pregnancy:
  • Drink a lot of water;
  • Avoid any triggers that you know can provoke an attack (keeping a migraine diary can be useful);
  • Get enough rest;
  • Keep a predictable schedule of snacks and meals;
  • Take a class in a relaxation technique;
  • If an attack occurs, try massage, ice pack and resting in a darkenedArticle Submission, quiet room.

Gum Disease and Impotence by Jason Mitchell

Recent research has shown that poor oral hygiene may not only damage the overall health of a person, but also result in erectile dysfunction. Though these two conditions often go hand in hand, some researchers remain doubtful. Nevertheless, poor dental hygiene can lead not only to a lost tooth but also a life-threatening condition called sepsis, so it would be wise to take care of your teeth.Whether or not gum disease leads to men’s impotence, the problem is here to stay. So first and foremost, men should not ignore the importance of regular mouth hygiene and dental check-ups.
All men who suffer from erectile disfunction should first ask themselves the following question before they start looking for generic ed drugs. “Am I taking good care of my teeth and gums?” You will be surprised to find out that the latest research have shown that taking good care of your oral cavity on a regular basis has a lot to do with your normal sexual activity.
One recent study suggested that more than half of the participants who suffered from impotency or erectile dysfunction also manifested the symptoms of gum disease. As a matter of fact, the researchers did not include in the study group patients with erectile dysfunction most possibly caused by such risk factors, as heart disease, elevated blood pressure, diabetes, smoking, and taking certain medications.
The correlation between gum disease and impotence
But what is the correlation between these two entirely distinct medical conditions? The answer, in a short, is inflammation. Inflammation implies a reaction of the immune system to any pathogens that seep into our body. With poor dental hygiene, gums may become easily inflamed, causing gum disease. Gingivitis is a mild form of gum disease, which, if left untreated, may eventually develop into a more serious condition, such periodontitis. This disease is caused by bacteria that form plaque on the tooth surface and produce toxins. Without treatment, the microbes multiply, thus inducing the damaging processes that affect the connective tissue supporting the tooth. As a result, the tooth and the bone around it start decaying which ultimately may lead to tooth loss.
Because the bacteria that build up on the teeth may spread through the bloodstream and damage the blood vessels, the chances are that those men who suffer from gum disease are at higher risk of developing cardiovascular disease. One of the major causes of erectile dysfunction is the problem with heart or blood vessels; that account for ensuring normal blood flow to the pelvic area. To be more precise, the untreated gum disease may result in systemic endothelial dysfunction that stands for decreased pliability of blood vessels.
Doubts about the relationship between gum disease and impotence
Even though the research has reported about a clear association between gum disease and sexual problems in men, many health professionals question the results of this study. The majority of them disagree that gum disease may be a causative factor in developing sexual impotency, but instead consider the relation of this disease to a great number of other underlying conditions. HoweverArticle Submission, they acknowledge that the study results may urge doctors to view mouth diseases as one of the warning signs that indicate poor overall health.

Valuable Tips For Handling Blood Glucose Safely And Naturally by V K Rajagopalan

A large number of people incorrectly think that diabetes can only be addressed by means of drugs, which as you might well know, frequently include daily insulin injections. In these days it is common knowledge that very poor diets are the main cause of diabetes, so surely a person's eating regimen can have a major impact if they have already got diabetes.

The truth of the matter is, you can oftentimes control diabetes merely by modifying your diet. Furthermore, a diabetes diet does not mean you can never ever eat all those comfort foods you like so much. You will nevertheless need to be aware of your meals, and how much you eat, and this is why I suggest that you use a diabetic diet carbohydrate counter.

Consuming Comfort Foods As A Diabetic Comfort foods like macaroni and cheese for instance, are full of fats and carbohydrates (carbs) so they can quickly push your daily carb intake over your recommended daily limit. You are able to enjoy all these meals, but you must make every single carb count and in order to accomplish this, you will need to keep the food portions modest. You'll also have to try and use the most wholesome kinds of ingredients.

As an illustration, in place of typical pasta, use wheat pasta, and rather than stuff like white flour, use whole wheat flour as a substitute. The very same applies to things like rice, so try to make the switch to brown rice. Lots of people are not able to make rapid changes, and if you happen to be that kind of person, then start introducing your new choices little by little. You may for instance start out my mixing a cup of brown rice into your usual white rice, and then steadily increase the ratio until you finally no longer have need of the white rice.

As a general rule, you should only allow starchy food products to fill up about a quarter of your plate, and portions should be around about one and a half to two inches in thickness. Such a small portion of your favorite comfort food may be substantially less than you are used to, but at least you don't need to forfeit it altogether.

Diabetics And Carbohydrates Take into account, the human body needs to have carbohydrates in order to function properly. Nevertheless, if you have got diabetes, or maybe you simply want to lessen the risk of getting it at some point, then you really need to watch your daily carb intake. The more carbs you consume, the higher your blood glucose level is going to be. To bring down your blood glucose level, you have to lessen your carb intake, and this is actually a key aspect of regulating diabetes through dietary changes.

Counting Carbs To Stay Away From Needles No person wants to have to give themselves insulin shots each day of their lives. However, if you are currently already using medicines for your diabetes, and you have made little or no effort to improve your diet, then it will only be a matter of time before routine injections become part of your life. The most effective way to prevent that from happening is for you to increase the amount of exercise you do, and start making a couple of dietary changes.

Get a reliable diabetic carb count to help you monitor you carb intake, and start making a sincere effort to make every single carb count. In other words, if you are going to be having foods which have a whole lot of carbohydrates, pick those foods which also have quite a lot of other useful nutrients.

How You Can Ease Tennis Elbow Pain using Ginger By: Karen Graham

This simple plant ginger is not only a wonderful tasting spice that gives vibrancy and pungency to any meal but it also contains many wonderful healing properties that have been revered by the great ancient civilisations of India and China for over 5,000 years. Today one of the big ginger producers is Jamaica and and India. The rhizomes (the bulbous root) are the location where all the wonderful healing properties of the plant are stored. I am just going to explain briefly about a couple of the kinds of properties that ginger is blessed with. The first one is the essential oil that is extracted through a method of distillation from the plant. Ginger is made up of the following essential oils properties alpha-cadinene, alfa-farnesene. beta bisolobene, beta-bisabolol, beta phellandrene, beta pinene, camphene, limonene, alfa cadinol, citral, citronellal. I know that these names may not mean much to you but on a molecular level it means that they have different properties that are naturally synergistically combined to give ginger extremely powerful and potent healing abilities that include:

analgesic, anti-inflammatories, antiseptic, expectorant, anti-viral and many others.

In addition to all of the above ginger also contains proteins and minerals amongst which are aluminium, magnesium, phrosphorus and zinc. Being an aromatherapist I often use ginger essential oil in various blends for digestive conditions, sickness and aching muscles. (But did you know that using the fresh ginger root is just as therapeutic as using the essential oil?) Fresh ginger is full of wonderful healing properties that can help with many illnesses including helping to prevent heart conditions. One of the most common uses of ginger is in combating motion sickness. More recent studies have also explained its potency in tackling inflammation and pain. One active ingredient in this important role is - gingerols - that act on a specific sensory receptor called the vanilloid receptor. This receptor sits on the pain sensory nerve endings (this is where the body submits nerve impulses from to tell our brain that we are feeling pain). The vanilloid receptor reacts to heat and acidity and this is how the active molecular structure of ginger reacts with these receptors to block pain.

Recent investigations into how best use of ginger as an anti-inflammatory pain killer has come up with some of the following ways:

Drinking it as a tea throughout regular intervals during the day. Making a compress to apply to the injured area and repeating this therapy every 6 hours

This makes ginger an extremely useful and inexpensive treatment that can be used for tennis elbow suffers and other tendonitis and arthritic conditions to effectively reduce inflammation and pain. In other words ginger can be used as part of a tennis elbow treatment program along with other natural healing techniques.

REFRIGIRATION CAN CAUSE CERTAIN FOODS TO GET SPOILED FASTER.(JOEL MARION)

I just read an interesting article on how refrigeration of certain food items
can get spoiled if refrigerated .The article was written by Joel Marion ,
co- founder,
 Bio Trust Nutrition.
Here is his take
Did you know that refrigeration can actually cause certain food
 to spoil faster?  It's true.  In fact, here are 7 foods that you'll never
 find in my refrigerator (mostly because I store them somewhere else):

1. Bananas - Storing bananas in the refrigerator can actually disrupt
 the ripening process.  In fact, once refrigerated, a banana may never
 be able to resume the ripening process even if returned to
 room temperature.
  Just think of how devastating that is for the banana

2. Sweet Potatoes - When exposed to cold temperatures, starches
 found in potatoes will turn to sugar, disrupting their flavor and
 texture
, not to mention increasing their sugar content. If you prefer tasteless
potatoes that cause weight gain, however, please refrigerate.

3. Tomatoes - Ever had a really amazing tomato right out of the
 fridge?
  Me either.  Tomatoes actually lose their flavor and become mushy
 when refrigerated.  Yumn't.

4. Apples - Same as above, apples lose their texture and flavor
 when refrigerated.  Instead, place an apple in the fridge about
30 mins
 before eating if you prefer your apples cold.  That's what I
 always do anyway.

5. Onions - If you love soggy onions while also causing the rest of your
food to taste and smell like onions, then you'll definitely want to
 refrigerate
 your onions immediately.  Otherwise, try storing them in a paper bag
 (within a cool, dark cabinet) for maximum shelf-life.

6.  Avocados - Much like the banana, refrigeration shuts down an
avocado's ripening enzymes.  If you want guacamole next month,
 this may be OK, but if you're like me, you probably want guacamole
 today.

7. Coffee - Contrary to popular belief, coffee is best stored at
 room temperature to allow the natural oils within the coffee bean
to activate its pungent aromatic scent.  My brother Big Jim,
 who savagely loves all things coffee, let me in on this little secret.
 On the flip side, refrigeration can actually cause coffee to absorb
 odors from other foods in your fridge.  Onion flavored coffee anyone?
Don't make that mistake twice guys...

Speaking of refrigerators, did you know that there's a new way to
 burn belly fat that has been shown in more than a DOZEN
 research studies to help you burn fat and slim your waist at an
 accelerated rate.

In fact, one breakthrough study showed that those who performed
 this belly-burning trick just twice daily burned 400% more fat
 than those who didn't.  Another study published in the
 Journal of International Medical Research showed that those
using this powerful flab-burning trick lost 20% of their body fat
in just 12 weeks.  And get this... the trick takes less than a minute
 to perform!

Would you like to burn 400% more fat by using this quick,
 belly-busting trick just twice daily?  We show you exactly
how to do it here:

 Do THIS twice daily to burn BELLY FLAB (takes less than 1 min)

To your success,

Joel

THE MISSING LINK TO GOOD HEALTH (by METHODFITNESS)

Sometimes it's hard to know which foods will make us fit as a fiddle, and that's especially true since a lot of opinions are conflicting. Also, eating nutritious foods doesn't guarantee that you're getting all of the necessary vitamins and minerals. Victoria Boutenko, penned a fascinating book entitled Green for Life. Boutenko searched for the perfect human diet, and made some intriguing discoveries.

She discovered the Chimpanzee Connection. Chimpanzees are genetically the closest relatives of humans, and have DNA that is 99% similar!

So what? Consider that chimpanzees are physically healthier than homo sapiens are. The former also have an extremely robust natural resistance to various diseases that are fatal to humans, such as cancer. The studies revealed that the key to the chimps' fantastic health was their diet. Specifically, there are major variances between the diets of humans and chimps.

In fact, the eating habits of Homo sapiens and chimps is extraordinary different. In a word, the answer is: greens! While humans eat many unhealthy foods, the diet of chimpanzees is very high in leafy green vegetables. Meanwhile, too many humans don't eat enough of them.

Afterwards, she shifted gears and focused her study on greens that are dark and leafy. She discovered that it's a "super food" that's packed with very high amounts of vitamins and minerals. Here are five fascinating facts about dark green veggies:

1. Greens are packed with both amino acids (and AKA protein).

Were you aware that dark leafy green vegetables are an excellent source of protein? Molecules of protein contain a chain of amino acids. When you eat protein that's included in foods such as meat, you're consuming chains of amino acids that have already amassed into a "complex" protein. Meanwhile, when you eat greens that are dark and leafy, you consume a high amount of amino acids. Your body then uses those amino acids to construct complex protein chains.

2. Greens contain a high amount of insoluble fiber

You likely already know that human diets should contain fiber. But fiber can help to expel harmful toxins from your body. Insoluble fiber is especially important, since its structure resembles miniscule sponges. Each of these "sponges" takes in an amount of toxins that is several times higher than the volume of the fiber.

Here are some major advantages of fiber:

It decreases your cholesterol level

It burns unwanted weight and prevents overeating

It prevents and lowers the risk of getting cancer

It prevents and treats diabetes

3. Greens encourage your body's homeostasis

What is homeostasis? It's the physiological process that causes all of the substances in your body to function at levels that promote excellent health.

For your body to reach homeostasis, it requires a large quantity of vitamins, minerals, carbohydrates, essential fatty acids, and amino acids. Greens are a wonderful way to consume these substances.

4. Greens are alkaline, and thus promote healthy cells in your body

Otto Warburg won a 1931 Nobel Prize. Warburg discovered what causes cancer. Specifically, a lack of oxygen in the body's cells resulted in weaker cell respiration. The result was fermentation, which itself resulted in acidity (a low pH level). There's a connection between the foods that you eat, and the pH balance in your body. For instance, consider Parmesan cheese (-34) and spinach (+14). Daily eating enough dark green vegetables will make you better equipped to maintain a pH balance that is healthy.

5. Greens contain chlorophyll (a "liquid" form of sun energy).

You may find this interesting: a single molecule of chlorophyll is extremely similar to a single molecule of human blood. Chlorophyll cleans and heals your organs, while simultaneously removing substances that are harmful.

Here are some of the benefits of chlorophyll:

it

promotes an alkaline body

aids in preventing cancer

promotes a high blood count

battles toxins

benefits vision

helps to heal sores faster

helps varicose veins

Have you had a Green Smoothie? We know that greens are healthy, but eating them daily can be challenging. The solution is to try an easy-to-prepare green smoothie.

Remedies for Fatigue & When You’re Feeling Tired

Our existences are anything but simple, and most of us will find ourselves overworked and exhausted from time to time-or all the time. Fatigue, true fatigue, is much more than feeling overworked and just being sleepy, although it can make you want to curl up in bed and forget the rest of the world. It creeps into everyday life and effects your physical and mental well-being making it very difficult, if not impossible, to get things done.-it is hard for people to understand that horrible exhaustion unless they experience it themselves. To the outside world, you just look lazy when all you want to do is lie in bed.
Fatigue is a difficult thing to manage, as it is such a vague symptom or condition. There’s physical fatigue, emotional fatigue, fatigue as a symptom or as a disease in and of itself. There is a good chance there’s an underlying medical condition causing fatigue, for example depression or low blood sugar, and this must be addressed before you can hope to get rid of the exhaustion. But if you haven’t been able to pinpoint the cause of your fatigue (and of course you’ve had it checked out by a doctor) it can often times be traced back to a number of habits and lifestyles that seem to have a tendency to develop in the modern world. If you find it dogging your footsteps and dragging you down, don’t sink into despair, there are plenty of changes you can make and natural remedies you can utilize to fight the feeling effectively.
1. Get active
We’re awfully quick to assume that if we feel exhausted, we should take a nap. But have you ever noticed that if you lie in bed all day, barring recovery or illness, you feel more sluggish? Your head may feel a bit fuzzy and achy, and you feel like energy was sucked out of your body, instead of replenished. This is because over-resting or sleeping has the exact opposite effect we want it to have, while exercise boosts our energy long-term. If you are feeling fatigued and not moving around much, you may just need a good regular dose of fresh air to rejuvenate your body and mind. As a BONUS, when you do rest, it will feel that much better and be that much more refreshing than if you’d sat around all day and done nothing. It also improves mood, thanks to the endorphins being released, and feeling gloomy is a major contributor to fatigue.
2. Sip Some Potato Water
While a brimming glass of fresh potato water may not sound like the first thing you’d want to relax on a hot summer day with, it’s actually a great home remedy for fatigue. Soaking slices of potato in water makes a potassium rich drink that can help you feel less tired and sluggish, as it replenishes a mineral many people have trouble getting enough of. Like magnesium, the body does not produce potassium-we have to consume it from outside sources. Because our diets these days tend to lean towards being nutrient deficient, it’s no wonder we find ourselves lacking in the potassium department.Potassium doesn’t give you a direct jolt of energy, per say, but along with magnesium (as well as chloride and calcium) it is an electrolyte that is vital for the proper functioning of our cells and the release of energy and the conduction of electricity. Without enough of it, our muscles wouldn’t move properly and our nerve impulses wouldn’t fire right. By ensuring you have healthy levels of potassium, you can get an edge on feeling dull and tired all the time.
You will need…
-1 unpeeled potato
-8 ounces of fresh water
Directions
Slice up the potato (there’s no need to peel it- I realize I show them peeled in the photo but I went on auto pilot) and add to a glass of water. Allow it to steep overnight in the fridge, and drink first thing in the morning.
3. Get Some Ginseng
Possibly the “most famous of all Chinese herbs”-that’s a hefty title, considering Chinese HERBAL MEDICINE dates back hundreds of thousands of years and is full of staple herbs and natural ingredients. But Ginseng has a special place in history, although it’s many varieties can make utilizing it a little confusing. Ginseng refers to any one of 11 species of slow-growing perennials in the genus Panax. It is found in North America as well as in Eastern Asia. It is often referred to as an “adaptogenic” herb, which means it helps the body adjust to stress-whether that stress is caused by being in an extreme heat or cold, hunger, or exhaustion/fatigue (just think adaptogens = adapt to stress.) They are thought to help the body in coping with stress by improving the health of the adrenal system, which is the body’s command center when it comes to your hormonal response to stress. Cortisol, the “stress” hormone, can effect if you sleep through the night, and dictate if you can fall back asleep, as it suppresses melatonin, which we need to have a regular sleep/awake cycle. Too much cortisol, and you could be left feeling fatigued and exhausted because your sleep is disrupted. In the morning our cortisol levels are at their peak, and then gradually fall throughout the day, but if they remain too high, this diurnal rhythm will get thrown off, as will the precious sleep that you need to rejuvenate. Having a bit of ginseng may help regulate your cortisol, and help you get the rest you need to function properly.
You will need…
-1 tablespoon of dried ginseng root OR 1 inch of fresh ginseng root
-1 cup of fresh water
-Honey/lemon to taste
Directions
Slice up 1 inch of ginseng root into small pieces, or place 1 tablespoon of dried ginseng in a tea ball. Cover with hot water and steep, covered, for 10 minutes. Stir in honey and or lemon to taste and replace your morning coffee. Ginseng must be drank daily to have any effect.
4. Perk-Up With Citrus
I adore citrus in pretty much all its forms. From lemon juice to orange juice and everything in between, it never ceases to come in HANDY for home remedies, and it’s refreshing as all get up. In the case of fatigue, start off your day with a glass of lemon water. The smell of a freshly sliced lemon alone will perk you up instantly, and the hydration will set your day up for success. Lemon water helps a number of conditions-such as preventing constipation-but there’s something about it that just revitalizes a tired body. If you find yourself dragging in the middle of the day, treat yourself to another glass. I couldn’t list off the chemical and molecular components of lemon water that fight fatigue, I can just say anecdotally that I (among many others) find it almost wondrous in regards to keeping up on energy.
Directions
Squeeze the half of a freshly sliced lemon/lime into a full glass of water. If it’s winter, make it warm water-if it’s summer, enjoy it chilled! Drink the whole thing, and repeat twice daily (with a mid-day boost if needed.). More Magnesium
I mention magnesium a lot, but it is an important mineral that we really truly suffer a lack of these days. The body does not produce magnesium on its own-it’s up to us (and our diets) to provide this essential nutrient. The problem is, many diets these days suffer from a lack of good wholesome FOOD. It is a cofactor in 300 plus enzyme systems that regulate a wide variety of biochemical reactions. Everything from muscle and nerve function, protein synthesis, and energy production require magnesium. The best way to get the proper amount is to eat the right foods rather than take a supplement. Dark leafy greens, nuts, fish, whole grains, and bananas are all rich in magnesium.
You will need…
-Magnesium rich foods OR a high quality supplement
Directions
Include a healthy dosage of magnesium rich foods to your everyday diet, or take a high quality supplement. Adults should take no more than 350 mg/day in the form of supplements-while getting more in terms of diet isn’t necessarily harmful, it’s easier to take too much in the form of concentrated supplements.
REMEMBER THAT GOOD HEALTH IS A CONTINUOUS HABIT NOT AN EVENT.

HEALTHY FOOD THAT CAN REDUCE AGE RELATED FORGETFULNESS

In my Last posting, we discussed various causes of age related forgetfulness and I mentioned that in this posting,we will talk about possibly  kinds of food that may be useful in reducing age related forgetfulness if taken continuously and religiously.
 fruits and vegetables, are the number one recommended diet to help reduce forgetfulness The antioxidants in colorful vegetables and fruits, such as leafy greens, deep red tomatoes, blueberries, and carrots, help stop unstable molecules from damaging healthy brain cells. So at each meal, fill about half your plate with fruits and vegetables. Your goal is five to nine servings a day
Blackberries: These small berries can help you learn something new. According to a Tufts University study, blackberries provide you brain with an antioxidant known as polyphenol, which encourages communication between neurons and improves one’s ability to soak up new information.
Apples: Not only do they keep the doctor away, apples can also keep your mental juices flowing. Thanks to an antioxidant plant chemical known as quercetin, consuming apples can help protect your brain cells from free radical attacks that impair cognitive ability.
Avocados: Avocados are filled with monounsaturated fats, which help contribute to healthy blood flow in the brain.
Salmon: This fish is a top source of DHA, the predominant omega-3 fat in your brain that’s believed to protect against Alzheimer’s disease.
Coffee: A recent study found that people who drank between three to five cups of coffee a day in their 40s and 50s reduced their odds of developing Alzheimer’s disease by 65 percent.
Tomatoes: Tomatoes contain an antioxidant known as lycopene that can help fight against brain cell damage and improve one’s cognitive function.
Broccoli: This green veggie contains a chemical called sulforaphane that helps strengthen the blood-brain barrier (BBB), a semi-permeable lining that protects the brain from injuries.
Honey: Not only is honey a sweet treat, it also contains several brain-boosting vitamins and minerals, including Vitamin B, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, potassium and anti-oxidants.
Walnuts: According to a study published in the Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry, walnuts can help reverse some forms of age-related brain wear and tear. These nuts are high in omega fatty acids, which have been shown to improve memory and cognitive ability.
A healthy diet is always good for your brain, but one eating style in particular may be best for preserving memory. "There's good evidence for the Mediterranean-style diet," says Argye Hillis, MD, professor of neurology at Johns Hopkins Medicine.
"If there weren’t enough reasons to eat chocolate already, here’s one more: Recent research suggests that the naturally occurring flavanols in cocoa reverse age-related memory loss in healthy older adults. The study, led by scientists at Columbia University Medical Center and Mars, Inc., was published  in the journal Nature Neuroscience.
flavanols are bioactive compounds found naturally in vegetables and fruits. They're also found in abundance in green tea, and have been found to be beneficial to human health. Earlier research has found that cocoa flavanols have the potential to help maintain healthy brain function, and in mouse experiments
Apart from the food.other healthy habits can be developed to also help reduce forgetfulness.,
Try to get a good night's sleep. "Attention and concentration go down when sleep is restless, and mental function is not as sharp as it is in those who have normal, restful sleep," Husain says Avoid big meals before bed.Go to bed at the same time each night and get up at the same time each morning Don't drink caffeine or alcohol close to your
bedtime.Avoid smoking or other forms of nicotine.Being under stress is very bad for your
 brain," Turner says. High levels of the stress hormone, cortisol, make it harder to pull out information from your brain's memory.
To relieve stress, try different ways to relax, like meditation, yoga, or a simple massage
Sometimes, medical conditions like thyroid disease, DIABETES, depression, or a vitamin deficiency can trigger memory loss.
Certain medicines, such as sleep and anxiety drugs, can also affect your ability to remember. See your doctor to get checked and treated for these problems, and to go over all your medicines.When you have trouble with everyday memory, it helps to have a few tricks up your sleeve. Every time you learn a new name or word, say it out loud to seal it into your brain. Mentally connect each new name with an image. If you meet a girl named April, picture a tree in bloom to represent the month of April.
To help with recall, post sticky notes around the home and office, or set reminders on your phone so you'll know when it's time to take your medicine or head to an important meeting.
